  • Are you good at connecting people? Community volunteers needed in Battersea, London
    Wandsworth Added 2018-07-31
Do you like meeting people? Befriending? Giving advice? Supporting people in difficult circumstances? Connecting people to one another? Are you free on early Wednesday evenings in Battersea, South London? Qultura is a non profit human rights organization which promotes human individuality and human creativity. We believe that life is better when you can be yourself, when you're in touch with your individual life path and purpose, and you have the freedom and opportunity to live the life the way you want. Many people are deprived of such things as personal autonomy, opportunities, and as such end up being defined by others, and are denied their individual human experience. We are currently rebuilding our Core project in community space in Battersea, South London and are looking to provide community support and develop better community support networks to the community of people in Battersea and surrounding areas. We are planning a Wedjnesday Meet Up on a Wednesday from 6.30pm to 8pm where people from the local community can come for advice, support, or even just a cup of coffee and a chat. We are also hoping to develop better community support networks and also at some point develop a Community Outreach team to provide effective support to people who are isolated, excluded and lonely, such as people with disabilities, the elderly and the homeless. The basic premise of our work is connecting people to other people, and includes such things as giving advice on such things as benefits, housing, debt, immigration, connecting people who need support to others who can give support, getting things done, providing companionship, listening to people's experiences, ideas, and feelings. You don't need any special qualifications or experience, we provide training, mentoring and support. Any previous personal experience you have is a definite plus. What we do ask is that you have access to the internet, are aged 21 or over and can get to Battersea for two or more Wednesdays in a month. You will be working as part of a small team of volunteers sitting round a kitchen table in the kitchen of a community space with space available for one to one conversations. To find out more and apply send us an email telling us a bit about yourself, your interests and some of the things you're good at doing. Please also give us some idea of where you are based in London.
